It used to be said of certain painters that they were the painter of women. Helmut Newton is certainly the photographer of women and in his way has shaped and crystallized the erotic fantasies of our time. His models project a mixture of distance and availability, displaying neither weakness nor doubt. Although always situated in contemporary surroundings, they nonetheless seem to belong to a century of the future.
